Alexi Giannoulias Campaigning for Senate

Alexi Giannoulias, currently the Illinois State treasurer, has announced his nomination for the US Senate. Browsing through his campaign website AlexiforIllinois; a strait-forward political site that has all the basic features (Contribute and Volunteer being the most prominent) and links to Alexi Giannoulias presence on major social media like twitter, facebook, flickr, MySpace, and YouTube. I expect that he will boost his online communication tools, and be more active in social media when the election closes in. Also, given that he does not receive lobbying, 527 or PAC money, online fund-raising should play a very crucial part in his campaign, real lessons to be learned from the DNC and Organizing for America online fund-raising strategies, but I am sure he already knows that.

You can also watch his complete Senate announcement, in this speech he reflects & mirrors most of the talking points of President Barack Obama, a person as he says that inspired him to run for public office.
Excellent to see another Greek-American active in American politics, someone that has implemented sound economic policies, and gained valuable experience while on the Illinois State treasury.

Social Media for Communication & Conflict Resolution

I came across an OSCE update on facebook asking: "Can social media help us prepare for peace?" In the new Report " Preparing for peace Communications in conflict resolution " the OSCE explains the role of Social Media in conflict resolution, detailing challenges and opportunities. OSCE/Curtis Budden Definitely recommending reading this OSCE publication. It is great that an Organization such as the OSCE is keeping active in Social Media, and at the same time "Mapping the blogosphere, reporting on negotiations, using social media to overcome divides" . #debate politics and new media communications

I must say that I enjoyed watching the first debate between the nominees for President of the United States. It was quite clear from the start that Romney was in charge, and President Obama seemed settled in reciting talking points.
