After the recent Senate election, Scott Brown can deserve a Republican citizen medal as the new Republican Senator from Massachusetts! He has managed to shock the Democrats and succeed Senator Kennedy, in a seat held by a Democrat since 1952. It is truly remarkable that he won on the day Pres Obama was sworn in a year ago. Scott Brown won the election on the issue of healthcare. As he writes:
I believe that all Americans deserve health care coverage, but I am opposed to the health care legislation that is under consideration in Congress and will vote against it.
It might have been a single issued campaign, but it managed to gain the support of Independents and dissatisfied Obama voters. The campaign was simple, the aftermath are poised to be very complicated, there was even a question by a journalist, if he is considering a run for the Presidency in 2012. Could this be a tipping point for the voters? Remember that on November 2, 2010, 34 Senate seats are being decided. The Illinoi Senate election, can be interpreted as another tipping point; if the Obama Senate seat goes to... Mark Kirk over Alexi Giannoulias then there will be a definite shift in US voter behavior.
